MIDLAND -- The Midland Police Department have reported a shocking number of vehicles in the city are uninsured.
Midland Police say one in four drivers don't have insurance. That means that out of the more than 105,000 non-commercial vehicles driving around Midland County, over 26,000 are uninsured.
While a lot of drivers say they simply can't afford insurance, police say in the long run, it costs uninsured drivers a lot more if they get pulled over or get into an accident than it would if they had insurance.
"It's gonna cost them in the long run, Midland Police Lieutenant Brian Bogart told Big 2. "You may get away with it for a while, but if you get a ticket or get involved in an accident, it's gonna come back to haunt you."
Bogart also says that if you get pulled over for drinking and driving and don't have insurance, you'll end up having to make monthly payments to the state.
