MIDLAND -- Shigella is a bacterial infection that can be transmitted by even the smallest amount of bacteria.
The Midland Health Department observed a higher-than-usual occurrence of this infection in late August, and they alerted local medical providers in October. The infection can be treated with antibiotics, but the best way to control the spread of shigella is by prevention.
In order to help prevent shigella, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after using the bathroom. Avoid inadequate bathroom facilities if possible. Use towels instead of dryers, and carry hand sanitizer.
For more information, call the Midland Health Department at (432) 681-7613.
