Union Pacific officials are waiting to offload the chemical to another tanker car.
In the meantime all roadways are open.
ODESSA -- Two roads in Odessa are closed due to a train car fluid leak.
The leak is coming from a railroad tank car on the 2900 block of Business 20, near the TXDOT office. One of the railroad tank cars includes Xylene, which is a highly flammable chemical.
The leak is small and a chemical company is on its way to contain the leak. Odessa Police and the Odessa Fire Department are also on the scene.
At this time, Business 20 is closed between Loop 338 and Reed Road in Odessa. Garden Lane is also shut down as crews monitor the situation and try to stop the leak.
Drivers headed through that area should avoid it and take alternate routes, since the road is closed and the leaking chemical is flammable.
At this time there are no evacuations of businesses in the area, but those two roads are close.
Big 2 is on the scene and we will bring you more updates as we get them.
