MIDLAND -- Monday was a big day for the Midland Police Department, as they welcomed 5 new officers.

After months of training, the new officers are excited to finally be able to go out in the field.

"It means that we can do a lot for the community," newly sworn-in Midland Police Department Officer Ray Tobar told Big 2. "I can help people that need help. People that can't help themselves. That's what we're here for - to help."

The new officers will start out in the field training officer program for 18 weeks. During that time, they'll be teamed up with experienced officers, where they'll receive daily ratings on their performance.
