Abbott was one of 20 Attorney Generals that joined into a healthcare lawsuit against the federal government. He says the federal ruling is consistent with the Constitution, and he feels that it bodes well for Texas's case as things proceed.
Big 2 spoke with Abbott right after the Health Care bill was signed in March, and he outlined why he feels it's important to fight "ObamaCare".
"The Constitution is supposed to limit Congress' power," said Abbott. "This is the most expansive use of congressional power ever, and if Congress can force Americans to purchase health insurance, which is what the individual mandate does here, they can force Americans to buy anything."
All of the states involved in the lawsuit have been joined by two individual plaintiffs and the National Federation of Independent Businesses. Senator John Cornyn and Congressman Mike Conaway have also applauded the ruling, and they say they hope it is affirmed on it's inevitable appeal.
