PECOS -- The Pecos-Barstow-Toyah I.S.D. will soon have a new superintendent.

Clark Boyd could be leading the 3A district as early as January. Interim superintendent Maxi Watts tells Big 2 that Boyd was selected in Thursday night's board meeting.

Boyd is coming from Holliday, near Wichita Falls, but he's no stranger to West Texas. Boyd started his career working as a teacher and coach in Andrews for nearly 20 years. He also worked for E.C.I.S.D. and Greenwood I.S.D.

The search for a new superintendent began in the spring. There were protests, and afterward then-superintendent Santos Lujan resigned amid controversy for removing the district's athletic director. Administrators say Boyd was picked from 26 applicants after extensive interviews.

They'll officially offer him a multi-year contract in January 2011.
