MIDLAND -- When you return from a vacation, you want your home to be the exact way you left it.

If traveling is part of your plans this holiday, the Midland Police Department has some tips that will help keep criminals at bay.

Most importantly, deadbolt all doors and lock all windows to prevent an easy break-in. The department also says it's a good idea have a trustworthy neighbor pick up your newspaper and mail each day. Finally, make sure to leave on an interior light.

The last two pieces of advice can help trick thieves into thinking someone is home.
