ODESSA -- An Odessa apartment fire left one person without a home temporarily Wednesday.

The blaze broke out at the Apple Ridge apartments on the 2600 block of Santa Fe around 12:30 PM Wednesday. Five fire units were on the scene, and they were able to get the blaze out quickly.

Firefighters say the fire started in an apartment bedroom. But the flames weren't the biggest problem.

"The fire damage was minimal, but there was considerable smoke damage," Kevin Jackson of the Odessa Fire Department told Big 2.

The resident in that unit was temporarily displaced because of the smoke, but the Red Cross was on hand to help him find a place to stay the night.

No one was injured in the fire, but several residents had to be evacuated. They were allowed to return about an hour later.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
