ANDREWS -- Public comments are still being accepted for the low-level radioactive site that could be built in Andrews County. But, if you want to your voice to be heard, you need to speak up soon.

The deadline for submitting your comments by e-mail or by phone is Sunday, December 26th. These comments are in response to a Waste Control Specialists plan that would allow dozens of other states to send nuclear waste to Andrews County.

As it stands now, only Texas and Vermont can bury waste at the Andrews County site. But the Waste Disposal Compact commission is considering a change that would let 36 other states do the same.

Supporters of the site say it provides a safe disposal option in the region and brings jobs to Andrews County. Opponents worry it could pose a serious environmental and health risk for the area.
