Midland Police will be out in force looking to catch and arrest drunk drivers. The department says that almost half of all traffic deaths in the Tall City are related to drugs and alcohol. D.W.I. patrols will focus on getting drunk drivers off the streets before they kill someone.
"If people are out driving around on New Year's Eve and they see a police officer, that police officer's probably looking at them, and looking at the way they're driving, and looking for any signs of impairment, any traffic violations," M.P.D. Deputy Chief Jeff Darr told Big 2.
M.P.D. says D.W.I.s could cost drivers between $7,000 and $30,000. If you're planning on drinking for the holiday, M.P.D. recommends designating a driver, calling a cab or staying home.
