Lubbock Sinkhole Caving in Street

A sewer line collapse is causing a Southwest Lubbock street to cave in.

The problem has neighbors fired up and leaves the city with more than just a few repairs.

The hole is about 6 feet wide, its on Miami street, near 96th.

Back in September, a contracting error during a sewage project caused homes to sink on 98th street.

To fix the issue, the city spent millions of dollars buying those homes from residents.

But City of Lubbock's Chief Operation Officer Marsha Reed said this is a completely different situation.

"On 98th street obviously when that was built there was no confinement to the ditch. It was wide open spaces, there were no houses there," said Reed.

She said residents on 96th and Miami have no need to be concerned.

"All their homes were in place when that storm sewer was constructed through there, that trench does not extend outside the pavement at all," said Reed.

Construction workers are repairing the sewer line right now.

After that, Reed said they will fix the trench, then re-pave the road.
