The Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club of Midland presents the Annual Community Wide Celebration of the MLK Holiday honoring the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The theme for this year’s event is “Don’t Stop Dreaming”. The featured speaker will be Midland’ District 3 City Councilman, John James. The program will include appearances by numerous local artists including the Ballet Folklorico Dancers, The Alexander Temple Expressions of Praise, The West Texas Chapter – GMWA and a MLK Community Youth Choir.

New on this year is a Poetry Contest for youth of Midland ages 6 to 18 years old. They are encouraged to write an original poem based on the theme “Don’t Stop Dreaming” and submit it by January 7th to be considered for prizes that will be awarded. Addresses/guidelines for submission are attached. The winners will also read their poems on the celebration program. Also, all youth in our community are invited to participate in the MLK Community Choir being formed for this event. There are two rehearsals scheduled for January 8th and 15th at 12 noon to be held at the Mt. Rose Full Gospel Baptist Church (211 N. Tyler – Midland, TX).

The doors will open at 6:00 for the public to view numerous displays and exhibits by civic organizations and also to participate in a silent auction to benefit the NB&PW Scholarship Fund.
