Unemployment Still Low In Permian Basin

By: Dylan Brooks
Updated: January 7, 2011
MIDLAND -- Unemployment numbers have fallen across the nation, and Texas continues to thrive.

And it looks like the Permian Basin is doing a good job of leading the way. Midland continues to have the lowest unemployment in the state at 5.3 percent. Odessa isn't too far behind at 7.5 percent.

"I believe the bottom line is the oil and gas industry and the impact it has had on the service industry," Willie Taylor of Workforce Solutions told Big 2. "Whether you're talking construction [or] truck driving, I just think we're doing a fantastic job when you talk about the energy side of it."

Unemployment for the entire Permian Basin is at 6.7 percent. These numbers are based on the November 2010 report.
