MIDLAND -- Midland Mayor Wes Perry has a lot of responsibilities, but Thursday he did one of his favorite parts of the job.

Perry was at Milam Elementary talking to a class of second graders about what it's like being mayor. Those students are studying local government in social studies, and Perry's visit was a way to learn more about it firsthand.

"They'll ask different kinds of questions, and what I like to do is get them engaged," Perry told Big 2. "So I'll usually ask questions, find out what they're studying in school. Could be government, could be civics. I try to engage them."

Perry says he likes to speak with students several times a month, since it's exciting to help mold their futures.
