AUSTIN -- Texas Governor Rick Perry has renewed a disaster proclamation for most of the Lone Star State.

Perry had originally issued the proclamation for 244 of the state's 254 counties on December 21st, as extremely dry conditions across the state raised fire danger to an extreme level. Perry renewed the proclamation for another month on Thursday. This means that the state will be allowed to use both public and private measures to battle the wildfire threat.

Perry noted that wildfires could cause imminent disaster to areas of Texas should they break out.
