ANDREWS -- In November, Andrews County voters decided to keep that county dry. Now, it appears that decision will not be challenged for much of this year.

A proposal to legalize the sale of alcohol in the county will not be on the May ballot. A group called Promote Andrews has been pushing to legalize alcohol sales there, noting the effects it would have on business and safety. Members of the group have said that if alcohol were legal in Andrews, it might cut down on the number of drunk drivers returning from Odessa on U.S. 385.

Andrews County Tax Assessor Robin Harper tells Big 2 that the group didn't turn in their petition by Tuesday's deadline, so the issue will not be on the ballot in the upcoming elections.
