MIDLAND -- The State of Texas is working to better our future, by promoting our past.

The Texas Historical Commission has launched a Heritage Tourism Partnership Grant Program.

They're currently inviting Texans living in the Pecos Trail Region in West Texas to apply.

Grant recipients will receive a minimum award of 5-thousand dollars to help invest in ways to attract tourists to their area.

"It's a competitive process," said Susan Shore, a program specialist.  "It's a small way for us to help communities tell their stories and find better ways to tell their stories and bring visitors into their area."

The deadline to apply is April 15th.
