Pentagon Sets Timeline For Gays In The Military Policy

WASHINGTON, D.C.  --  For the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell to take effect, the military has to train forces on the new law allowing gays to serve openly.

Plans to instruct military commanders, chaplains and the rank and file on how to implement those changes are expected to be revealed Friday.

Regulations will have to be modified, while recruiters, leaders and key administrators will implement the new policy.

Although the legislation was signed last month, serving openly won't take effect until President Obama, the defense secretary and the chairman of the joint chiefs certify that the U.S. military is ready.

Then, there's a 60-day waiting period for Congressional review.

When that's done, Don't Ask, Don't Tell is dead.
