ODESSA -- A man is facing charges after being part of an accident that left two people dead. The same accident also injured a Ector County Sheriff's deputy.

Deputies say that Saul Benavides Acosta Jr. was speeding away from police on January 1st in West Odessa. Deputy David Escudero was rushing to join the pursuit, when he crashed into another vehicle at University and Westridge.

Anthony Dewayne Neel and Brenda Sue Madrid both died in that crash, and Deputy Escudero was sent to Medical Center Hospital in critical condition. Escudero is now going through rehab.

Deputies eventually caught up with the car, which they say was being driven by Acosta. Now, Acosta is charged with evading in a motor vehicle causing death.
