MIDLAND -- An embattled Midland County Constable called it quits Monday.

Choc Harris formally resigned Monday morning. Harris pleaded guilty in mid-January to a misdemeanor charge of tampering with government records. The charge surrounded allegations of improperly filing paperwork.

Harris was fined roughly $500 and sentenced to 6 months deferred adjudication. Another condition of Harris' plea deal would be that he'd have to give up his badge.

Midland County is currently reviewing applications for Harris' replacement.
