MIDLAND -- Tow trucks were out in full force as people started making their morning commute to work Tuesday.

Although most drivers seemed to be traveling at a slow rate of speed, the ice and snow still caused some vehicles to slide off the road, even causing one to flipped over. The good news is the Sun came out started melting that ice later on in the morning. So far, no major injuries have been reported. Things could have been much worse in the Permian Basin when it came to icy roads.

TXDOT informed Big 2 News that no major roadways were closed due to the Winter Blast. They spent last night applying compounds to bridges and overpasses -- the areas most likely to freeze. That appeared to have helped, but that doesn't mean the roads are safe.

"Even with our work and preparation, a lot lies on the foot of the drivers so to speak," Gene Powell of TXDOT told Big 2.

TXDOT is advising drivers to be cautious, especially as the temperatures drop overnight. With dropping temperatures, the roads refreeze, and we could see black ice on the roads on and off through Friday.

Leave plenty of space to hit the brakes, and don't tailgate anyone. Also, drive slowly, and don't accelerate quickly, or you could lose control.
