AUSTIN -- On Wednesday, many people across Texas lost power for about 10 or 15 minutes because of a series of rolling brownouts.

The unusually cold weather knocked about 50 of our state's 550 power plants off line on Wednesday. Because of that issue, on top of an increase in power demand, the Electric Reliability Council Of Texas had to order the brownouts.

"We can look at what went wrong and make sure it doesn't happen again as soon as this is fixed," said Texas Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst. "I know that the gas companies are trying to get more gas to our generating plants. "

The state is also asking everyone to turn off power devices when they can, and keep the temperature in their homes around 68 degrees.

Keep in mind, this is not what caused some of the outages in West Odessa Wednesday. Some homes in that area lost power for hours.
