Crimes Down In Midland In 2010

MIDLAND -- The 2010 crime statistics are in for Midland, and it's good news for the Tall City.

    Crimes were down from 2009 in Midland by 10.4 percent. There were 3908 reported crimes, compared to 4360 the year before. There were only 3 homicides, compared to 5 the year before. Forcible rape and robberies in the city were also down sharply.

    The only crime numbers to go up from 2009 figures were aggravated assaults.

    Midland Police say a P.S.A. About auto burglaries helped raise awareness about that crime. They also say that burglary-reduction initiatives unveiled in June dropped that crime by 20.8 percent for the rest of the year.
