Texas Medical Board Places Arafiles On Probation

AUSTIN -- An embattled Winkler County doctor has been placed on probation.
The Texas Medical Board placed Dr. Rolando Arafiles on four years probation probation Friday afternoon. Arafiles can still practice medicine if he completes additional training, but he will have to be monitored by another doctor. Arafiles also must submit his patient and billing records for review.
The board said that Arafiles didn't treat emergency room patients properly at the Winkler County Memorial Hospital. They also say he also didn't always document patient diagnoses and treatment plans.
On top of the probation, Arafiles is facing charges for retaliation and misuse of public information. Those charges stem from a 2009 incident where two nurses filed a letter of complaint against him. Both nurses ended up getting fired from the hospital. Both nurses also faced misuse of public information charges for that letter, although neither was convicted.
