LUBBOCK -- Opening statements occurred Tuesday morning in the trial against a former administrator at the West Texas State School in Pyote.

Prosecutors said that John Paul Hernandez gave inmates special treatment before he molested them at the Pyote school. The defense countered that there was no physical evidence of any rape.

Hernandez is charged with sexual assault and nine counts of improper relationship between an educator and a student.

Prosecutors also called a Texas Ranger to the stand. That Ranger first began investigating the alleged abuse in 2005.
