PHILADELPHIA, PA --  The Obama administration is giving a big push to high-speed rail.

Vice President Joe Biden has unveiled a proposal to devote more than 50-billion dollars to high-speed rail over six years.

At a rail station in Philadelphia, Biden said a modernized rail system will help reduce transportation congestion.

Updating the nation's aging infrastructure was a key theme of President Obama's recent State of the Union address.

Biden was a regular rail commuter during his tenure as a senator from Delaware.

Supporters say the U.S. lags well behind nations like China in developing high-speed rail networks.

Opponents argue that the cost is too high.
