MIDLAND -- February's sales tax numbers are in, and Midland's check totals more than $3.1 million.

Midland's figures are  more than a 26 percent increase from the year before, and the largest check ever collected for the city of Midland. February's sales tax revenue is based on December sales, so all of that holiday shopping helped create the new record.

Odessa's sales tax numbers are also improving. They received a check for over $2.8 million, which is up more than 25 percent from the year before. Odessa has budgeted more than $17 million in sales tax revenues for the year.
