Many counties across the Basin have a burn ban in place, due to the dry conditions. The ban prohibits burning of trash, but debris from fireplaces can also spark fires if it's thrown out too quickly.
The City of Odessa wants to make sure residents let debris cool completely before they get rid of it. Residents should put cooled debris in a metal bucket and soak it in water before throwing it out.
