Elementary School In Big Spring To Be Rebuilt

"We have some infrastructure problem with plumbing, electrical," said Steven Salvidar Superintendent of Big Spring I.S.D. "They really have gotten to the point the usefulness.”
And the recent, extreme winter conditions have really exposed the building's deterioration.
"The electricity the heat just went out the other day and it was really cold," said Lory Lopez, a parent of a Moss student.
So, instead of renovating for $10 million, officials presented a bond that would demolish the old school and rebuild on the same location for just $1 million more.
"It just made physical sense," said Salvidar. "With renovating, we were still going to have a older school. When the cost became comparable, we decided to look into that. We presented information to the school board and the school board voted to build a new Moss Elementary."
Although parents of the school will be sad to see the building torn down, they are optimistic about the future.
" I think it was good choice to rebuild because Moss has been here forever," said Lopez. "Not only that, it is a great school and it old. There is nothing wrong with new and new would get us a better school."
