The bill would make "sexting" -- or texting sexually explicit pictures -- illegal in Texas. As it stands now, anyone caught sending or receiving these messages could face felony child porn charges. But House Bill 1309 would make sexting a misdemeanor.
Teens would have to take part in a sexting education program, but they could get the charges wiped from their record and would not have to register as a sex offender. Also, any minor who admits to getting any sexually explicit text within two days would not be prosecuted.
