ODESSA -- Spring break is a week off school that many students look forward to. But many of them will think twice before going to Mexico this year.

Because of the ongoing drug violence in Mexico, the Texas Department of Public Safety warned students not to go to any border towns last year. This year, they're taking it a step further and urging people to just steer clear of Mexico all together.

That warning is more severe then the federal warning saying that people should be safe in resort cities that are frequented during spring break. The Mexican government agrees.

"The other tourist places all over the country are completely safe to be visited and the spring breakers shouldn't have any problem, provided they have to right conduct," said Mexico Consul Raul Acosta.

Student Brandon Evans also agrees that tourist towns are safer, but that still doesn't mean he wants to go there.

"It's safer then going right across the border," said Evans. "But still, I wouldn't want to take my chances. You can go to the beach over here in California or Florida. Be just as fun."

And for those of you who just can't stay away from Mexico -- be careful
