MIDLAND -- Derome Williams mother Valencia Williams and his aunt Tammy Mitchell sat down with Big 2 before the arrest of Terrance Neal to talk about what type of person Derome was and how he will be missed.

"He was my baby, he was a loving and caring person," Williams said. " He really cared about people."

Derome Williams was just 30-years-old when he died. On Wednesday, the injuries he sustained from a gunshot wound to the head claimed his life. That shooting happened after an altercation outside of Zac's Club in Midland on Saturday.

Derome was was loved by his entire family. Especially the little ones who looked up to him.

"He loved his nieces and nephews," said Mitchell. "His brothers and sisters, they were all crazy about him. They would see him coming, they'd come running."

Now, after the shooting that took place last weekend, those younger family members will lose those moments with someone who always looked out for them.

"He always told my grandchildren and he'd tell them, 'you didn't get in trouble in school today,'" said Mitchell. "He wanted them to do right. He didn't want them to go the wrong way."

Derome did not have insurance and his family needs the public's help to cover funeral costs.

Anybody who wishes to help can do so at any Western National Bank. Go up to the teller and tell them you want to donate money to the account of Valencia Williams, established for the benefit of Derome Williams.

There is word that somebody out there is trying to collect money on behalf of the family. Don't give them money. The only way to donate is by going to Western National Bank.
