ODESSA -- Odessa Police were called out to an apartment complex Monday after an armed man threatened to kill himself.

According to Odessa Police, a man in his mid 50s called police from the Sunset Apartments around 4:30 PM Monday afternoon, threatening to kill himself. Police officers, a K-9 unit and a SWAT team showed up at the scene, and they kept several residents from going back to their apartments for safety reasons.

The man came out of his apartment without a weapon about two and a half hours later. He was taken into custody for a mental health evaluation.

Authorities say the man was suicidal.
