Ector County Prisoner on the Loose

ODESSA -- An Ector County inmate is on the loose, after he bolting from the courthouse Wednesday.

Ryan Drod Thompson, 22, ran out of the Ector County Courthouse about 10:00 AM Wednesday, according Sgt. Gary Duesler of the Ector County Sheriff's Office.

Thompson was in the Courthouse Security offices in handcuffs, as officers were completing a book-in sheet to process him. He was there for an arraignment on a marijuana charge.

Authorities say, suddenly, Thompson stood up and ran out the door into the lobby of the Courthouse and out the West entrance.

He was last seen running East on 5th Street towards Texas Street.

Thompson is a black man about 6'1”, 160lbs. He is reportedly wearing handcuffs, a black T-shirt and baggy tan-colored pants. Authorities say he lost one of his shoes when running out the back door.

According to scanner traffic, an escape vehicle – a white Buick Regal – may have been involved. Big 2 has learned the vehicle is registered to a house in the 200 block of Fitch, which is on the south side of Odessa.

Officers from the Ector County Sheriff's Office, Odessa Police Department and the Department of Public Safety are searching for Thompson.
