The Tall City's unemployment rate sat at 5 percent for January, which was the lowest figure in the Lone Star state. Amarillo had the second lowest unemployment rate. Lubbock came in third.
The news was grimmer for Odessa, where unemployment went up from 6.7 percent in December to 7 percent in January. This is primarily due to seasonal jobs fading away after the holidays.
Overall, 44,100 jobs were added in Texas in January. The state unemployment rate stayed the same from December at 8.3 percent.
The national unemployment rate is still higher than the state rate. The national unemployment rate sits at 9 percent.
