State Representative Tryon Lewis has filed legislation that would establish fees for importing low level radioactive waste from states that aren't part of the compact. The bill would also keep foreign countries from being able to send that waste to Andrews County.
Lewis estimates that the bill could raise $30 million every two years if it's passed.
