PECOS COUNTY -- The cause of a large wildfire in Pecos County has been determined.

Investigators tell Big 2 that the Pinon Fire was the result of an escaped campfire. The Texas Forest service was called in to help Fort Stockton volunteer firefighters around 10:30 AM Monday. The fire was located about 28 miles south of Fort Stockton.

Firefighters had a tough time getting the blaze under control because of the rough terrain. That blaze is now 100 percent contained.

Before it was put out, the Pinon Fire burned more than 4,500 acres.
