Police say that in December 2006, Carlos Maldonado fired several shots at a pick-up in Hobbs. 11-year old Lawrence Juarez was riding in the pickup with his father, and the shots hit and killed him. The boy's father named Maldonado as the shooter while at the hospital.
Maldonado was charged with murder, but the case has gone through two mistrials. Now, Maldonado will serve five more months behind bars before being released.
