COAHOMA -- The Bulldogs of Coahoma breezed through district play a season ago, finishing 5-1 and making the playoffs. But with the addition of a few schools to the district, repeating that success will be a challenge.

"The top of our district isn't as good as it has been but we feel the middle is a whole lot tougher," said Head Coach Trey Gardner. "We picked up both Crane and Alpine, both dropping down a division and Sonora spent a good amount of time last year ranked in the top 5. So, we feel there's not a Friday this year that you can go out play badly and expect to get a win."

"There's not teams you can roll over and not practice hard that week," said Senior Quarterback Tanner Ruiz. "We're gonna have to practice every week hard and on Friday we're gonna have to play"

"The hype on them is really big," said Senior Running Back Aaron Acevedo. "They seem to be the best teams in the region every year but as long as we work we'll be alright."

Experience will be the key this season as the Bulldogs return nine starters on both sides of the ball.

"We've been together since we were little," said Ruiz. "We know each other and we know each and every one of us is going to come out and play hard."

And having that experience makes it easier on the coaches who only have a few weeks to prepare them for their first game.

"We're able to do thing faster," said Gardner. "Our kids remember things, they've done things before and so we can throw it at them a little faster. And same thing defensively. We've put stuff on a little quicker."

Coahoma opens the season opens the season August 30th against Forsan at Grande Communications Stadium in Midland.
