Next JBS Lecture Series: American Democracy on Trial

MIDLAND -- Upcoming JBS Lecture Series to discuss American Democracy on Trial.

UTPB's John Ben Shepperd Public Leadership Institute is hosting two well-known polit-ical analysts at the Wagner Nol Performing Arts Center at Hwy. 191 and FM 1788.

On November 1, as part of the Shepperd Distinguished Lecture Series, David Frum and Jeff Greenfield will address the topic, "American Democracy on Trial? What does the Future Hold?" The lecture is free and open to the public, beginning at 7:00 p.m. The moderator will be Patrick Canty, publisher of the Odessa American.

Author, columnist, and speechwriter to President George W. Bush, David Frum has written seven books including a novel, and is a contributing editor at Newsweek, the Daily Beast, and a columnist for Canada's National Post, and Italy's Il Foglio. He is also a contributor to CNN and to American Public Media's "Marketplace."

Jeff Greenfield has spent more than 30 years at networks ranging from ABC to CNN. Currently an anchor on PBS' "Need to Know," he has won four Emmys. A speechwriter for the late Robert F. Kennedy, Greenfield looks at American political history in a special way. He has authored or co-authored 12 books including an insider's account of the contested 2000 presidential election.
Pat Canty, has been a newspaperman for over 30 years. Active on area organizations' boards, Canty is also president of the Texas Daily Newspaper Association's board of directors.
