MIDLAND -- Dia de los Muertos translates to "Day of the Dead." It is historically a Hispanic holiday to honor deceases ancestors with offerings.

Saturday an event to honor that holiday was held at the Ellen Noel Art Museum in Odessa. People came out to celebrate the holiday with a special family art day. Visitors created special art of their own, and watched the UTPD Ballet Folklorico perform. Organizers say it was done in the name of fun and education.

"With our large Hispanic culture her we just feel like it's important for people to understand about their heritage and about their culture and about the art in their culture," said Doyle Neland, Curator of Education.

The event was free and open to the public.
