MIDLAND--It's been one year since the Midland Humane Coalition opened up for pet adoptions. The coalition's pet adoption center is located inside of the Midland Petsmart.

To celebrate the one year mark, the organization held a special adoption event in the Petsmart parking lot.

The coalition and several other pet adoption agencies brought with them loving dogs in need of a home.

Many of the animal rescue organizations say they continue to do this work to cut down on the number of animals having to be euthanized.

MHC director, Norma Stegal said, before the adoption service came along the number of euthanized animals in the Permian Basin was extremely high.

"What we do is try to save dogs from being euthanized, which Midland was so long a high euthanization city. So we have cut that 53 percent since we've opened up our adoption center here at Petsmart," said Stegal.
