MIDLAND -- Midland High's Barry Russell is the proud coach of two division one athletes.

Conner Beck and Alex Mata inked their futures on Wednesday to play baseball for the TCU Horned Frogs.

In the 2012 baseball season, Mata was named second team all district for his infield play and Beck was named honorable mention. Both helped lead the Bulldogs to a post season appearance.

The TCU baseball program has made large strides in recent years, including an appearance in the college world series. That alone made Texas Christian an easy pick for Mata and Beck.

"About being with the TCU program, they've been in the college world series and I like winning, so hopefully when I go there we can make another trip back," Mata said.

"It's a great school, great academics and of course its baseball program is great," Beck said. "I want to be able to win, so those are the main reasons."
