A tough economy is forcing more Americans to use food stamps to buy their thanksgiving meal this year.

That's according to government watchdog group The Sunlight foundation.

The Economic Policy Institute tells U-S News the number people receiving government assistance rose to 42 point two million.

That's close to the populations of California and Connecticut combined.

Economists also say that food stamp use will not go down until unemployment improves.
