The MOTRAN Alliance held its 2012 annual meeting and luncheon at The Shack in the Back Monday.
Fred Underwood -- The Texas Transportation Commissioner from Lubbock -- served as the guest speaker at the meting.
The organization highlighted its efforts to improve TX 349 and TX 158. MOTRAN also discussed improving driver safety education in West Texas.
Meanwhile, MOTRAN says it's a constant struggle to secure funding from TXDOT.
"We have a funding problem at the state level," MOTRAN Alliance board member Robin Donnelly told Big 2. "We've been lucky enough that they just gave us about $68 million in planning authority. But that's for future projects -- it's not something that we can plan on using that in the next 5 years."
The annual meeting also included award presentations. Jami Owens was honored for her work to lead the "Fix 349" campaign.
MOTRAN continues to work to continue to expand TX 349 between Midland and Lamesa. The first segment of the project -- which extends to the intersection with TX 176 -- is expected to be completed by early 2014.
