Hotel Settles Lighting Up Big Spring for First Time in 30 Years

BIG SPRING---The Hotel Settles in Big Spring celebrates their opening with a ceremonial lighting held at the hotel on Friday evening. 

The hotel is still undergoing some maintenance for the finishing touched to a project that has taken 6 years to finish. 

Hotel Settles CEO, Brint Ryan says that he took on the project in 2005 after hearing that it may shut down for good because it was no longer safe to operate. 

"This is my home town, I grew up here.  I'm a fourth generation Texan from Big Spring" says Ryan. 

The hotel brings personal feelings to Ryan, because he says that the city has been so good to him and his family and he's now looking to give back. 

Ryan even dedicated the hotel to his mother, Virginia Anne Ryan, who ran an insurance agency in Big Spring years ago.  She passed away in 1989. 

Ryan says that it was his mother who taught him to never back down from a challenge.
"When you tell me it can't be done, I want to go do it" says Ryan "and that's exactly what we did". 

Hotel staff has been busy for the past 2 years working on restoring the historic hotel.  With a mixture of history and modern technology, the 62 rooms and suites give off a 1930's feel, but still providing the conveniences of a modern hotel.  

"It's a little bit of everything for everybody" says Hotel Settles General Manager, Juan Rodriguez. 

The hotel will also be the only hotel in Big Spring to provide room service to their guests.

The ceremonial lighting takes place at 7:30PM on Friday evening, but the official grand opening is Saturday at 5PM where anyone can come to the Pharmacy bar to enjoy food and beverages.

The Settles Hotel will also be in the National Register of Historic Places.
