ODESSA -- Permian Football has a rich history, so a coach with a long resume, seems to be the only way to go. That's what the Panthers did when they hired Blake Feldt as their new head coach.

Feldt knows what it's like to play football in West Texas. He graduated from Midland High and was an assistant for the Bulldogs in 98-99,. But it was always his dream to coach the Permian Panthers.

"I grew up in Midland idolizing the Permian Panthers as everyone knows here in Odessa that they are probably the most prolific high school football program in the country," said Feldt.

"He has intimate knowledge of the Permian program and the things that Permian has done in the past," said ECISD Athletic Director Todd Vesely. "He has reached out to a lot of folks from the Permian past and he has always wanted to be here and he is fulfilling his dream."

Feldt brings with him an impressive resume. He has won 4 district championships and 49 games in just the last 5 years alone at Pilot Point and Hays High School In 2009, while coaching at Pilot Point, he won a state title and Rivals.com Texas Coach of the Year. And he's done all this while replacing legendary coaches.

"Both of them posed different challenges," said Feldt. "I enjoy working through those types of things. This job will have it's own particular types of challenges. I assure you this hasn't happened by design to replace legendary coaches. It just happens to be my career."

He now replaces another legendary coach in Gary Gaines and is all ready to leave his mark on the Mojo.

"We're ready to go to work on that. Obviously we understand the challenges ahead of us, we've got lots of work to do. We're ready to roll up our sleeves and do things the Odessa way, the Permian way and thats just working like nobobdy else works."
