BIG SPRING -- TXDOT crews are preparing to repair an overpass that was damaged by an oversized load in Big Spring several months ago.

Starting this week, construction workers contracted by TXDOT will remove and replace part of the bridge deck on the eastbound Interstate 20 bridge over F.M. 700.

Crews will also replace the damaged bridge beams and install a new guard rail.

The bridge was damaged by an 18-wheeler carrying a high load back in October 2012.

During construction, drivers should expect occasional short-term detours along Interstate 20 and F.M. 700.

F.M. 700 may be closed entirely at times, as overpass beams are removed and then replaced.

Some lanes will also be closed at times along both Interstate 20 and F.M. 700.

The repairs are expected to be complete in early March.

J.H. Strain and Sons, Inc. of Tye will complete the project for about $250,000.
