NASA announced it has beamed an image of Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa to the moon through a laser.

The digitized picture reached a satellite orbiting the moon.

The space agency says the experiment is a first in using lasers to communicate at interplanetary distances -- instead of radio waves.

By using lasers, NASA says it's on the verge of revolutionizing the way data is delivered across the solar system.
