CARLSBAD, NM -- Carlsbad (NM) Police have arrested two teenagers for their alleged roles in a drive-by shooting that injured a young girl earlier this week.

Christian "Moses" Cabazuela and Zane Fernandez were arrested on the evening of January 21st.

Police say that Fernandez, 14, fired at a home in the 2600 block of Carver Street with a semiautomatic handgun around 3:50 AM on January 21st.

Fernandez was reportedly riding in a black Ford Explorer -- which was driven by Andrew Cobos -- at the time of the shooting.

Fernandez then reportedly handed the gun to Cabazuela, 14, after the shooting

Cabazuela then reportedly fired at a home in the 2700 block of Carver Street.

One of the bullets Cabazuela reportedly fired at the home in the 2700 block of Carver Street hit Emma Hernandez in the forearm.

Hernandez, 6, was later treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Carlsbad Medical Center.

No one else was injured in the shootings.

Police say that Fernandez got rid of the weapon in a nearby park after the shootings.

However, Cobos' mother noticed that there was a bullet casing in the Ford Explorer after the incident .

    The woman then called police.

A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Fernandez and Cabazuela.

Now, Cabazuela and Fernandez are each charged with shooting at an occupied building, shooting from a motor vehicle and tampering with evidence.
